I have to say I do not use Photoshop, I use the second method more and go for a dynamic look and feel to a website. I like to use the tools to found on the net for free to achieve whats needed. I really do prefer it , just for the fact that I'm on the net using it. showing or telling people what to do or how I think an element should be just feels better. I have a hard time telling people that a particular package is the best way to get things done when, if you have the search skills and computer skills it can be done for free by them.

Showing people the effort and time needed to go the DIY route makes it easier for me to also show the paid route, leaving it up to them to decide which will benefit them more. I hear your point, at the end of the day I found this page on the first page on Google after a search for web design blogs.

A website has to work for the business, individual one-off difficult designs are an area I want to steer away from. Look and feel and how it works is enough individuality, I reckon. The Megan Fischer article looks like it's worth a read.

Hi 'Blogger'. Well spotted!

They are all symmetrical so that you can easily tile the textures meaning you don't need large images and the size of the canvas isn't limited.

As you said they are all very subtle. Did you notice that almost all of them are symmetrical? I guess this is thanks to media queries.
